Before proceeding with this documentation, ensure that you have Admin privileges in your Canvas LMS instance. If you have lower privileges, you will not be able to perform the configurations described in this document. Please contact your system administor or Canvas directly to have your permission levels elevated appropriately.
This documentation is specifically written for Canvas LMS. If you need help setting up a different LMS, please contact the ASU Prep Product Team at tatallah@asu.edu
Open your Canvas site and go to Developer Keys.
Click + Developer Key and choose LTI Key.
Type “Argos” as the Key Name.
From the "Configure" screen
Change the drop-down to Enter URL
Enter https://app.argos.education/lti/developer_key.json as the JSON URL
Select Save
You have now successfully installed Argos Simulations
Begin by finding your newly added LTI Connection from the instructions above and toggle the state to on. Then select the pencil to edit your connection.
Find the placements options and add Account Navigation as a placement to the existing list.
Once returned to the list of LTI Keys, copy the Client ID of your Argos LTI Key.
Next we will create a new App in Canvas
At the root level of Canvas, go to Settings → Apps → View App Configurations
Select + App then select By Client ID
Enter the Client ID you copied from the step above and press Submit
You have now installed the Argos App into Canvas. Proceed to the instructions below to register Argos to enable the account for students and teachers.
From the Canvas LMS admin area, find the Argos menu and select it.
You will see an Online Consent Form. Choose “I Agree” and Submit.
Now begin filling in the registration fields. An example is filled out below. When you choose Canvas as the configuration, it will auto-populate with the information you need.
You only need to replace the generic “canvas” portion with your school’s domain. For example, change https://canvas.instructure.com to https://yourschool.instructure.com.
Enter the Deployment ID from the LTI App you created above. (The Deployment ID can be found under the root level Settings → Apps → View App Configurations area. Select the gear icon → Deployment ID.)
Select Register - An email will be sent to your ASU Prep Representitive to process your registration.
Return to the Developer Keys area of the Canvas LMS Admin and edit the Argos App.
Find the Placements and remove Account Navigation and Course Navigation.
Select Save. The registration and integration is now complete.
Before proceeding with building your first Argos lesson, ensure that your ASU Prep Rep has finalized your registration from the steps above. Once this is complete, you can proceed with the subsequent steps.
Argos Simulations and Content can be added to a Canvas Course as a Module.
Edit the Course you'd like to add the Argos Content to and Add an Item.
When adding, select "External Tool" and find "Argos" from the menu of external tools.
When you select Add Item, select the Argos Item you just added. You will be prompted with a screen like the one below. Simply follow the on screen options to find the appropriate simulation for your course.
Choose Start
From Select Source search for ASUPD Plate Formation, select it and choose Next Step
You can enter anything you'd like for the following fields:
Course Name
Course Section Number
My class meets...
Similarly, you can enter anything you'd like for Course Details.
When ready, select "Create Section"
Congratulations, your setup is complete and ready for Students and Teachers
You can preview your Argos content as a student or teacher using the on-screen options available.
